¿What is a Business Visa and what is the process to obtain it?

  • By:Vianela Morillo

The Dominican Republic is a country characterized by being accessible and providing various opportunities in all aspects. Any citizen of any country who wishes to visit us and enjoy the country is kindly welcomed. Some of the benefits are:

General Migration Law No. 285-04 and its regulation of application 631-11, govern the topic of immigration in the country, along with all the different immigration status available for foreign nationals. The goal is to provide opportunities to anyone interested in gathering information and starting any type of business or investment, allowing the option to apply for a Business Visa. With this visa type, you are able to enter the country as many times as you would like, without having to be questioned in Migratory ports.

We used the word “questioned” because although a visa may not be necessary to enter the Dominican Republic from your country and all you may need is to buy a tourist card when you enter the country very frequently, you may be questioned. During this questioning, immigration officers may ask you to explain the reason why you enter the country so regularly, without having the corresponding visa. Therefore, if your goal is to enter and leave regularly, you can prevent this by obtaining a Business Visa.

There are two types of Business Visas:

1. Multiple-Entry Business Visa (valid for one year).
2. Single Entry Business Visa.

In this article, we will be referring to the Multiple-Entry Business Visa.

Where can this type of visa be requested?

In the Dominican consulate of your country of origin or in the country where you have legal residence.

Application Requirements:

1. Visa application letter, explaining the reason why you are requesting this type of visa and your financial means.
2. Visa application form
3. A single 4 X 5 centimeter front view picture, with a white background.
4. Original passport, with a minimum validity of six (6) months.
5. National identity document (from your country of origin or the country where you have legal residence).
6. Travel History (if you have a visa and have traveled to the Dominican Republic).
7. Criminal Record Clearance Letter.
8. Guarantee Letter (from a guarantor in the Dominican Republic).
9. Documentation demonstrating financial solvency.

How long does it take for a Business Visa to be granted?

A response is usually provided within five (5) to fifteen (15) days.

What are the benefits of this type of Visa?

There are several benefits:

a) You will be able to enter and leave the Dominican Republic without any difficulties.
b) Maintain a legal condition in the Dominican Republic.
c) You will be able to carry out any type of financial business activity in the country.
d) Among other things.
