Timeshare tourism in the Dominican Republic.

  • By:Vianela Morillo

The Dominican Republic is one of the most inviting countries in the entire Caribbean area, with specific traits that make it stand out in the area, such as:

  1. The most beautiful and breathtaking beaches of the Caribbean.
  2. Outstanding weather for tourism, characterized by a bright sun.
  3. An excellent geographical location.
  4. Security and legal protection.
  5. Low levels of crime, allowing any foreigner to perform any type of tourism in the country, without jeopardizing their physical integrity.
  6. A hotel infrastructure recognized worldwide and with the highest quality standards.
  7. A rich and diverse cuisine, both local and international.
  8. And most importantly: The welcoming nature of our citizens, which is unmatched and unparalleled.

Because of these attributes and conditions, Timeshare Tourism has expanded in the country.

Timeshare is the option offered commonly in the majority of hotel chains throughout the world. With this option, clients reserve a certain amount of weeks per year in the said chain, which they can use in their country of origin, in addition to all locations worldwide.

How can timeshare be used?

In the hotel chain, in the country where you shop.
You may also use it in any other venue they may have in a different country.
They even give you the option of selling your timeshare, in the event that you will not use it, as a way of compensation.

How is a timeshare paid?

Monthly membership needs to be paid. The price will vary according to the plan you choose.

Timeshare sales are conducted under special conditions, in which people are often led to having great hopes and expectations. Once this short-lived stage is over, potential buyers begin to think rationally about their decision, sometimes realizing that they cannot afford such acquisition.

Timeshare Difficulties

One of the biggest problems of a timeshare is the availability of units, homes, chalets or apartments due to the limited availability of timeshares. As a result, reservations should be made up to six months in advance.

Another significant problem with this type of product or service is that benefits and options are provided in a broad manner, without providing detailed specifications. Consequently, this has created displeasure to those who purchase packages, given that sometimes they feel like the end product is not what they had envisioned.

A common problem is a quality of the hotel and the service, which is not proportional to what is expected or what was paid.

However, the overall experience should be positive, given that the market for this type of offer continues to grow steadily.

We have spoken about legal stability, but something to keep in mind is that the laws of other countries differ from those of the Dominican Republic. Therefore, before signing a contract or agreement, it is ideal to make a legal interpretation, to ensure that in case of non-compliance, you can be compensated or at least be able to cancel the contract without being affected.

Unfortunately, in our law firm we have worked with several cases in which even though the hotel chain is not complying, not much can be claimed considering the stipulations on the contract signed between the parties.

In summary, we suggest that you always seek legal advice on the matter, in order to avoid future complications.
